5 Reasons We Do Not Need to Sweat the Election

Funny Eggs With Facial Expression
Ever feel like our nation’s leaders are cracking up?

Are you excited about this year’s election?  Most people on my Facebook wall do not appear to be happy about politics these days.  As a matter of fact, many people seem to be rather afraid of what lies ahead of us over the next few months and years.  Most of them won’t say they’re afraid.  Instead, their fear manifests itself in anger, because they are frantically trying to persuade others to adopt their own political positions.

As believers, let me just say that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, and of power, and of a sound mind.  And, by the way, those aren’t my words; those are God’s very own words as found in 2 Timothy 1:7.

If you are running around in a spirit of fear, then that means God is not fully in control of your life.  So let Him take control of your emotions, actions, and reactions right now.  Give that to God completely!

The truth is that, as Christians, we really don’t need to sweat the election.  Here are five reasons why that’s true:

1. God is in control.

2 Chronicles 20:6
O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.

.

2. The last chapter has already been written, and it ends well for those who are following Christ.

Revelation 21:3-8
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.
7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

.

3. God has promised us that He will not leave us or forsake us.

Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

.

4. This planet is not our final destination.

1 Peter 2:9-11
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul….

.

5. The tribulations of this planet won’t even come close to comparing to the extraordinary blessings of the next life.

Romans 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

.

So take heart.  We must not allow the affairs of this world to overwhelm us.  Politics are not the solution to the problems of our society.  The Good News of Jesus Christ is the only true solution.  And we must not be distracted from sharing that truth with this generation.

  2. I cannot simply leave this post without leaving behind five hearty “Amens”, one for each reason listed. I’m so thankful that this world has an expiration date, which only God knows. He has given us plenty of reasons to rejoice amidst the difficulties of this life below, as we await the reign of Christ and also a new heaven and earth. Blessings.
