The Healing Power of a Thankful Heart

Young man looking up

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18

Here we are at Thanksgiving just following the most contentious election cycle we have ever experienced.  Many people are hurting, confused, and frustrated by the current state of our nation.

I would like to suggest that now is the time for us to focus on the things for which we can be thankful.  A thankful heart is like a medicine that can heal your soul and strengthen your faith.

A couple decades ago, my wife had the opportunity to meet a woman who was known for being a spiritual leader in her denomination.  My wife was eager to hear whatever message this woman might have for her in their brief encounter.  The woman simply uttered three words to my wife:  “Count your blessings.”  At first my wife felt a bit disappointed by this simple message.  But the message lingered in her mind and ended up becoming a major life principle for her in the years ahead.  Whenever my wife would experience hardship, she always came back to that message:  “Count your blessings.”  And it was a healing force that got her through some extremely difficult times.

At Thanksgiving we certainly have an opportunity to count our blessings.  And even though we see things in our culture and political system that we don’t agree with, we can still experience a great deal of blessing and comfort if we will just stop to count our blessings.

So take time to ponder the amazing blessings in your life.  Praise Him for His kindness and provisions which He has bestowed upon you and your family.  Thank God personally for the specific things He has done for you in your life.  Focus on those things.  Ponder those things.

If you will make a point of focusing on your blessings, you will be surprised to realize that the issues in our culture aren’t as life-altering as you once thought.  God is still on the throne, and He wants to love you and bless you beyond your wildest dreams!

Now share this message of hope with others!

  1. I just recently came across this biblical site. As a matter of fact yesterday. God will lead you to where you need to be. This has blessed me so much through Christ Jesus and I know our God is awesome.

  2. Wonderful messages for me this morning. Just what I needed as I’ve been praying on a problem. I need to set boundaries in my life to keep my soul from sinning in an extreme situation of evil that’s been forced on me for 29 years due to family members I tried to please and didn’t want to hurt. I know God wants me to walk away from this and not allow pure evil to walk into my home and heart again. I was reminded once again how blessed I am. God has seen me through my worst times when I was in great pain with lumps in my throat. Thank you, Jesus, for your love and tender mercies. Lord, you help me understand you love those who have wronged me as much as you love me. When we truly repent and don’t repeat the same sins over and over on purpose we are forgiven and our sins are thrown away forever. Thank you, God, for my Many blessings, too numerous to count and thank you God for loving me.
